Louisville gospel music advisory group meets

This month, the Louisville Story Program invited a group of Louisville gospel music legends to form a community advisory group for LSP’s Gospel restoration project, I’m Glad About It. They swapped stories, reminisced, and discussed Louisville’s leadership role in Gospel music.

We were so honored to hear from Wilma Clayborn and Bessie Palmer, pictured here. Wilma Clayborn (left) was the longtime owner of and producer with the prolific Grace Gospel Label, owner of Grace Record Store, and singer in the fantastic Gospel Motivators. She’s joined by Bessie Palmer (right) an incredible vocalist who performed with the Gospel Wonders and the Gospel Descendents. Their memories and perspectives are invaluable to an understanding of the Gospel scene in Louisville.

The project will culminate in a public archive of 1,000 songs from the Louisville Gospel community, and a 2CD box set with a hardbound book documenting the rich history of Louisville’s contribution to the genre which will be authored by these and other participants.
